How To Convert Color Photographs to Black and White

There is just something about black and white photographs that is just captivating. A simple color snapshot can look like a professional photograph if converted properly to the black and white format.

Additionally, you can "save" some otherwise really noisy (grainy) color photographs by converting them to B&W.

There are quite a few ways to make the conversion from Color to B&W. The Digital Photography School offers up several, all of which work. Scott Kelby also offers some killer ways to convert color to black and white in his outstanding book series, Photoshop Elements.

Photoshop Lightroom Arrives, Picasa Retired

Well, we finally got a copy of Photoshop Lightroom. After extensively testing Picasa as a photo catalog, we're here to report that -- for FREE -- it's an awesome application. Its photo re-touching tools, while limited and rudimentary, worked for most of the photos we took over the past 3-6 months.

Overall, Picasa ranks as one of the best applications we've used, free or for purchase, photo-centric or not.

It's one slick piece of software!

Now, in the next few days, we'll open the shrinkwrap on the Lightroom disk and hope it offers all (and more, of course) that the beta did way back when we gave it a try.

8x10s for 99 Cents at AdoramaPix

This is a great price. Adorama offers excellent quality prints, now, for a limited time, at a substantially-reduced price. Note that Costco, whose quality is not that good, prints 8x10s at $1.49. THIS IS A STEAL.

16X20s start at $4.95, too! (Costco -- $9.99.)
